My Christmas Party 2012
I'm going to host a Christmas lunch for some friends on the day itself, and because I haven't done a proper hosting in a long time, I've appointed myself as CEO (Chief Entertainment Officer), CFO (Chief Food Officer) and COO (Chief Organising Officer). I was even spirited to design a simplistic logo for the party's thirteen-word party title.
Can you guess the title? Maybe I should start a contest, but no one's gonna join anyway.
By the way, I was suffering from respiratory tract infection for the past few days thanks to the lack of sleep (more accurately, I'm not sleeping early enough and my body decides to hit me in the trachea), but I'm getting better now despite no medication.
If the world ends tomorrow, I love you all. Yes, even the people I don't like.
XOXO

Trying Times In One Way Or Another
I'm still alive, and I guess that's enough reason to be happy about.
My mind has been muddled over the past month, and that has prevented me from becoming sufficiently motivated to update the blog, but I guess I need to make an entrance once in a while anyway. I do miss blogging anyhow, and I shouldn't let my quest for perfection ruin a transcendent opportunity through archiving my everyday life and thoughts.
Just a quick update before I disappear again, this is an extremely short summary of what has happened:
That's all I can think off now...
Also not in the best financial position right now, and Christmas also happens to be around the corner. :(

Just a quick update before I disappear again, this is an extremely short summary of what has happened:
- Went for Final Fantasy: Distant Worlds concert with MPO. (My childhood relived! *googly eyes*)
- Went for a MPYO performance. (The concert master is a cutie.)
- Lost a friend for 3 weeks then due to my perseverance, regained it. (I had nightmares at one point, but I'm just glad that it's over.)
- Finished my experiment with slow carbing. (It works so well for fat loss but becomes tricky if you want to bulk. Or it's just troublesome I guess.)
- Went for the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale. (My damage was only RM106, but I don't want to bite off more than I can chew and swallow.
- Lost another hardcore character in Diablo 3 because my computer crashed. (Dammit.)
That's all I can think off now...
Also not in the best financial position right now, and Christmas also happens to be around the corner. :(

Why I Support Obama
First things first, congratulations to Barrack Obama for winning his second term as president, a job well done indeed. Now, there will be less annoying campaign ads (not that I am affected too much by them) and the country can return the usual running state. Before Obama was mandated his victory, people around the world were watching the television and the Internet for continuous updates about the polls, me included, but I believe that many have chosen to let this poll go unnoticed. After all, it doesn't really affect them, or does it not?
America is truly a symbol of democracy for countries around the world, and although their democracy system may not be completely flawless, the leaders and citizens fight hard to uphold the basic principles of the land of the free. As we approach a globalised world, America which used to be one of the places with the darkest history of racism, is slowly becoming a wonderful multicultural deposit of wealth, cultures and intelligence. Even Malaysia can't brag anymore about being Muhhibah or having good goodwill between all ethnolingual groups, as although American may be explicit with their racism, they probably have a little more tolerance than us in Malaysia who hide our extreme discrimination under our family rugs. Heck, some of us couldn't even bother hiding anything, and our government policies continue to favour a certain ethnolingual group when they aren't even indigenious to our land, not too mention the dirtiest and corruptest racial politics you see being played the nearer we close to our own elections.
It deeply saddens me indeed.
But Barrack Obama, as a leader of a first world nation, can offer to be a leading example of the policies that people thought will never get past the lobbyists: higher taxes on tobacco, the legalisation of gay union, heavy focus on education, reduction of national deficit, pulling out of the war, and to become less dependent on foreign nations. He might be taking a long time, but he has already made so many 'unpopular' decisions and still have won the election.
Because people believe in hope. And people believe in a better.
And we should too, regardless of where we live on this planet we called Earth.
Edit: I actually wrote this yesterday before I slept and scheduled it to be published at 8am, but I'm editing before it goes live so here you go. Maine and Maryland just won their gay marriage freedom, and Washington is on its way to victory. Minnesota voted out. Change is indeed quick.

"No Status, Please."
Wow, what a long hiatus. But if you have read my previous post, you'd probably know why I am such an infrequent poster these days. I also came across a fever and twisted neck muscles yesterday and am still resting today; it almost felt like being a paraplegic.
Today is weird.
How many of us can say that we are inspired by a porn star (and when I say this I mean not inspired to do porn, or to perform better in bed, but rather in the way we lead our life)? Today happened to be the day I can proudly say "yes, I have", which is just pure surprising even to me.
I can write about everything he has written, but I think you'd be better off reading it yourself:
You can argue about the morality of porn till the cows come home, but I totally salute Bryan Slater for approving equality of status in a relationship regardless of sexual role, a principle I totally belief in.

The Myth of Profit-Profit Economics
Warning: Anti-Establishment rant approaching.
Okay.
I haven't been blogging for a while now because most of the time I have an idea that I really want to write about, it isn't one of those simpler and free-roaming ideas or experiences but rather a complex idea that I know will put many readers off and that I have less knowledge of in whole. I'm gonna try to attempt to explain one idea today (keeping the other ideas as isolated from each other as much as I can to prevent confusion) as much as I can by being relevant, yet thoughtful. I'm not an economist by training, so if you see any flaw in my thoughts, please point them out as I am still a learning man.
Let's start with a strong premise:
There is no such thing as absolute profit-profit transactions between two parties in the economy.
When I say this, I mean every single business transaction, investment plan, sales and purchasing of product or service, is always a profit-loss scenario where one party has more to gain than the other.
The most frequent argument against this idea that people have been saying to me is that both parties have come to an agreement and has gotten something they want in exchange for what they give in return, and since both parties now have what they want, they are then satisfied and thus both parties profit. I believe that this can be true if and only if both parties are completely happy with the exchange which has to be objectively (ideally) of the same value.
The truth is that in almost most scenarios today, both parties will both think that they are losing out and had to compromise to the others' demands. Even in scenarios where both parties are "completely happy" (where a rich businessman buys an expensive car because he likes it and ends up happy with the purchase and the salesman is obviously happy too), the businessman (assuming he is financially smart) would have wanted the car to be cheaper and the salesman would have wanted to sell it for higher. Or in rarer cases, some people would have lost out for selling something for so much cheaper because there is no knowledge of how much it should be priced (or in reality the market prices of commodities are terrible absolutes in general).
Crap. I think my argument is going in circles. I think I better start from the fundamental of where profit started.
Back in the days where bartering was a method of economic transaction and there was no currency to represent value, people had to barter goods based on an exchange which both parties deem as equal. Yes, even at that point of time, someone was bound to profit more than the other. However, as the market wasn't as open as today and there was less capitalism at work, people had the power to objectively price goods based on overall time, labor and resource required and standardise it across all transactions. So, yes there is already a profit-loss transaction happening, but it wasn't as apparent.
Then as currency became a means to represent value and product markets remained local while labour markets open up globally, the world
Ugh, I'm just not making my point! Just go and read: Understanding Capitalism Part II: Personal Property, Money and Finance...
This is why I hate blogging these days.

Tortured By My Own Ideals
I am an idealist at heart. Yes, I do have my realist ends, but it is that belief in what can be and what should be that drives me to learn and grow in intellect, ability and stature to hopefully influence others who are still clueless at the top of their own ladders. I don't blame them, perhaps ignorance really is bliss, but it is not enough for me to just live my life when deep down I know, and I know I can, transform this landscape that we are in.
Perhaps I was born a few centuries too early, but this is my time. A world full of possibilities. Yet, at every corner, people still amaze me with how backwards we can keep going.
I mourn for our present, and for the death of our possible future, yet I do not give up.
Who else is going to push on?

Of Surprising Ringtones and Earlier Than Expected Exits
My new ring tone is this:
Yes, it gives me a heart attack when I least expect it, but it is so fun and so me.
One of my favourite contestants in X Factor UK has been voted out. I knew she wouldn't last till the end, but how can she not last longer than Rylan Clark... :( Her performance of INXS' Never Tear Us Apart is a craazy combination of Cruella de Vil, a generic psychotic serial killer and The Godfather. Kudos to her for being the most experienced singer in the competition (not only for being the oldest), I hope she releases something in the future.

Of Multilingual Eunuch's, Post-Midnight Assholes, and Good Byes
The Empress Wu musical at KLPac was such a great experience! The dialogues were in English, but the singing and the honorary titles and greetings were in Mandarin, giving the musical a very fusion theme. However, the content and the script was written in such a way where the historical importance was retold in a relevant yet objective manner. The costumes and set changes were impressive, making use of depth of the audience's vision, directive lighting and a multitude of textures to great effect. Two Eunuchs became semi-narrators of the entire show, showcasing a classical angel and devil element and inserting humour to great effect.
Just, wow. Thanks to my mum for getting me tickets at such short notice. I even set third row from the front in the main auditorium, which meant I could see everything to even greater detail.
Then horror struck.
On my way home, an idiot car who was driving parallel to me suddenly started eating into my lane and I could see that he did not see me. I slammed on the brakes and kinda did a whiplash flick of the steering wheel to the left (and I would lie if I said I wasn't panicking at that exact moment).
Then I heard the loud "BZZQTTKXKXKDDDDDTTT".
Crap.
The car started to feel like the entire left side of the front of the car had been decimated. I quickly made way to the most safe spot on a sloped highway area to survey the damage, keeping my fingers crossed at all time.
I came out and was shocked at first. I couldn't spot any damage on the car. It took me a few seconds more than what a normal person would have taken to see that I only burst my tyre (note that I used burst instead of puncture). I was practically driving on my wheel and a scrapped tyre for a few hundred metres. Took me about 30 minutes to change the tyre, not because I'm clueless, but because it was quite a steep slope and Toyota was an ass for keeping the car jack under the front passenger seat for I-have-no-idea-what-reasons.
I was more irritated an annoyed by that driver with car WNM 6228/6628 (can't remember clearly) than was I scared.
Ass.
Have been feeling lethargic these two days despite having sufficient sleep (7-8 hours).
Oh, and I would like to dedicate today towards a person I have never met, a friend of many friends, but mostly, a stranger. Edwin Siaw, whose condition over the past 2 weeks have gone viral over Facebook, has passed away. I shall not pretend that I am extremely sorrowful, or that I care that much to the point that I share his memorial photos with my friends and visit him. However, it doesn't mean that I am indifferent. I know what I am to him: as much a stranger as he is to me, yet I love him as much as I would love any other human being. I'm not the one to mourn for him and comfort the grieving ones in his inner and outer circles. I am just a good soul, reaching into what remains of his memories and connections to other people to appreciate his existence in this world, the legacy he has left behind during this past 24 years.
God bless you Edwin Siaw Won Kien, 1988-2012.

Empress Wu's Sudden Invitation
Suddenly managed to get a single ticket to tonight's performance of the musical Empress Wu at KLPac (I could have gotten more for people to come with me, but it was a very last minute thing and no one seemed to respond to my invitation). Will just go enjoy myself.
Yesterday performance of Ovation by The Canticle Singers is indeed great effort. Yes, there were sections where the chorale went a little flat and I hate the narrator breaking the fourth wall and flow, but it is still worth going for.
And I saw the closest thing to a bag I am finding for myself. It was sold at Fossil at RM1149...
I'll pass for now. T.T
Yesterday's cheat day didn't seem cheat-y at all. I felt more like just getting back to the diet plan. Maybe I'll just switch to having cheat meals after my workouts rather than a cheat day.

Push and Shove Food Into Mouth, Swallow, Don't Vomit and Reward with Culture
Was too unmotivated to blog although I did have content, but here's a photo-laden update.
Over the weekend, I bought my very first ever original album:
I'm proud of myself. It's not a big feat or anything, but I've finally come to the point that I can selectively support artistes which I love. It is an album with mixed songs, but stays true to their roots in ska rock.
Another great person I'm looking out for is Melanie Masson of the X Factor UK. She probably won't win (because she doesn't seem to have mass appeal), but if she releases anything I'll buy it. Shut up and take my money.
I had a close friend come up from Singapore during the weekend too, and he recommended and lent me a book: The Four Hour Body by Tim Ferris. I'm not a person who likes to subscribe to a specific health paradigm that fast, but the arguments in the book is compelling, and I decided to try the Slow Carb Diet (I started this Monday) and also Occam's Protocol (probably starting next week). for perhaps a month and see what happens. I liked the analogy called The Harajuku Moment (which is something I kind of already know, simply a tipping point, but I liked the choice of words he used which happened to coincide with Gwen Stefani's love for Harajuku culture).
The Malaysian diet availability is not very conducive to the Slow Carb Diet, and diet is key to the success of the workout system (like every other program). It's nothing new to need to stuff your body with food, and technically I get the freedom to load up on anything that's allowed to unlimited amounts (and also have several ingredients that I can eat in small amounts, like nuts and butter).
There is also a sad disparity in pricing of goods in Malaysia. My staple for lunch for this diet is cap fan or mixed rice, where I include two vegetables (usually spinach which is highly recommended and another choice vegetable or beans which almost never appear) and one protein, and obviously exclude rice. This was what I had yesterday:
Guess how much it costed? Ten freaking Ringgit. I could buy 4 raw huge chicken breasts for that money (or perhaps even more). Today I ate lunch at a shop just at the opposite corner of the same row of shophouses:
This only costed Four Ringgit. I could buy 2.5 times what I bought yesterday. I think even these food operators should still be bound to some sort of consumer board control, tsk.
Will update the blog with my progress with the diet and workout.
Other than that, I'm just flowing through life.
Oh! And enjoyed my MPO concert last weekend too. They were playing Beethoven's Symphony No.1 and No. 3 (Eroica). I was worried that I wouldn't be in the mood to fathom that music, but it was the perfect pieces for that moment for me. :3 Happy days indeed. With the Ovation concert coming up this weekend and Yundi Li and my godbro's performance next month, I'm musically fed well. So happy!

Vengeful With A Chance Of Volatility
I think most people should have experienced what I'm about to tell before (except for those really good souls, I salute you with utmost respect).
Today, I feel a little vengeful, and its the one that stems from others looking down at you (kind of) and you willing to put everything in your life down and hatch a mastermind scheme just to prove them wrong, probably totally with the "in your face!" tonality (I'm not going to disclose all the details, as remembering it all just makes me dwell more on this shallow obsession). However, I don't believe that I should continue to nurture this volatile feeling and distorted view of reality, because although you can use it as a strong motivator, it stems from your own fabricated reality of the other person's mind (although it might be true anyway) (I probably also can't just put everything down). Another reason is because it is so time consuming and mentally unnecessary. The world needs my contribution more than my preoccupation.
What have I become? I'm just human, so I guess this is normal anyway. Luckily I do too much self reflection and I have several good friends, should I stray away or be blind to my own unknown kryptonite. The weekend is almost here.
EROICA! Can't wait.
Oh, and I think I'll help advertise for my friend. Please, please go for this performance if you can:

What We 'Hope' For Our Blood Brothers As Gays
I notice a pattern. For gays who have brother (or has one brother, but I'll just use plural for the context), they prefer to hope that their brothers are straight. I know that it is so that their family will have at least one male to continue their bloodline, and also to alleviate the familial tension and conflict if the parents are non-supportive. However, I believe that such thinking is actually very selfish, that we are putting the same sort of expectations on people who should be given the same amount of liberal freedom as we'd hope we can exercise. We'd just be hypocrites in hiding, not standing up for what we truly believed in, only caring for our own self gain.
I won't impose this thought on anyone else I be judged too.
Skipped work because I got the worse sleep yesterday. Must, must, must get proper sleep tonight!

Ambiga At The Gym
Checking through my blog stats, it seems that so many people view my blog if there are images. Humans are really visual creatures. So I'll try to snap more stimulative visuals when I can (but if you want sexual arousal, there are always porn sites instead).
Today, I was surprised by our very own Dato' Ambiga in the gym! I was too shy to go say hi and take a proper photo, so I had to make do with a stalker-like dodgy shot as if I'm some kind of deranged psychopath with a discerning taste.
Not to make a joke with someone's name, but you can technically pronounce Ambiga as 'am bigger' (some foreign reporters do pronounce it that way). (No you shouldn't as the correct pronounciation is AAM-BEE-GA, this is just a lame attempt at humour.) (I respect Dato' Ambiga deeply, just in case you are questioning my actual attitude towards her.)

Message From A Year-Ago Reader
While looking around my Facebook messages, I suddenly (the word appears again!) saw that I received a message from my blog reader last year in November, and failed to notice it until today. Wow.
I sent him back a message of thanks, but I seriously need to work on my observation skills. That and Facebook isn't exactly the most user-friendly system per se. If you happen to be that person, thanks again for taking the effort to send me a message (and I promise you, it wasn't because I am/was an/a antosocial creature). :)

Of A Minor Narcissistic Encounter, Koco Krunch Binging (And Maize Commodities), and My Whimsies on A Stationary Bike
Today was a really hot day, and I was out of the office for most parts of the day to visit clients and all. When I was at the last client, a beauty salon, at 4pm, I suddenly noticed my own reflection in a mirror. (And whenever you see the word 'suddenly' appear, it means something is coming, right?) I was shocked at how good I suddenly looked at that angle with that specific lighting. I am generally not a narcissistic person and I'm not exactly extremely happy with my body or anything (although technically narcissistic people tend to have one of the lowest self-esteem), but it's really interesting to have my own diva moments like this.
I was too lazy to bring my usual cooked snacks to work today, so I just brought a bag of Koko Krunch which happened to be lying around at home. I had to rely on it a lot since I was outside most of the time with no access to other food. I basically finished two thirds of the entire package by the end of the day. The only reason why I didn't gobble down everything is because 1. cereal is 'heaty' and I shouldn't eat too much heaty food, 2. most cereals these days are packed with simple sugars, and 3. I ran out of water and cereal can be quite dehydrating by itself.
I always questioned why cereal prices have gone up so much these couple of years (especially the usual cheap mass produced brands like Cornflakes, Koko Krunch, Honey Stars, and the like). Then I realised the incredible change of demand in the last 10 years. Based on indexmundi, corn prices have tripled since 2002. And our salaries aren't going up. We are seriously feeling the krunch more and more, pun intended. Dammit.
Oh, and my last subject matter is my habit of doing cardio in the gym. I actually use music to distract myself from the tiredness and at the same time push myself harder. A lot of people are incredibly surprised when I told them my usual playlist on the stationary bike is the entire Chopin's Piano Conerto No. 1. It is an intensely emotional piece that I could somehow channel to fuel my biking. However, I do make strange expressions and move my body a little as if I'm directing or being directed by the music.
Oh well, not that I care what people think. I'm doing what I can.
I can't get enough of X Factor UK this year, especially Jahmene Douglass and Melanie Masson. Oh, and Jason Brock from X Factor US.

Together Thoughts Back Putting
I have several things I need to get settled. Specifically, I need to reassess what I really want now, in my future, and in my lifeline. I need to ask myself again who am I.
Oh, and I seriously need to clean my bedroom. And beg my dad to buy me a new mattress or I'll never get sleep.
Nite peeps.
Oh, and Happy Malaysia Day eve.

Horror Just Isn't My Thing, Just So You Know
Slept relatively well yesterday. I just woke up once, but it didn't seem to affect me that much. Body recovery is still slow, so I'm taking plenty of rest days.
Today, I was browsing through some horror games since I am fascinated by the game mechanics (but I seriously cannot bring myself to play any of those). I don't really watch horror movies too if I can help it (except maybe Black Swan, which many people say doesn't count as one). Take a look at these few if you are a big fan of this genre (regardless whether you are a gamer/gaymer or not:
Please proceed with caution, the clips are quite daunting...
Slender is based on a cult mythical creature that seems to have a slight popularity boost recently with the launch of this game.
SCP is a fictitious organisation which tries to contain ünknown items and individuals. Go check their official Wiki out, all content is completely fan made and is actually has quite freaky write ups.
My third and last suggestion is a website, which has several interactive horror point and click horror adventures. I found this when I was in college and the creator made a few more after the pilot version.
You can find it here: sinthaistudio
I don't know why I'm even blogging about this, considering I hate horror and it will illicit some kind of fear before sleep.
Nothing to do here.
The weekend is almost here! (Kind of...). Thanks for the comments, I seriously don't know how you cope with me.

Sleeping Through Sleepless Sleep
I haven't been having proper sleep the past 2 days, despite my effort to sleep on time. My body seems to be waking up a few times in the night, interrupting a much needed restful slumber or stage 3-4 of the REM cycle.
I'm praying I sleep well tonight.
Celebrated my godbro's birthday yesterday. Just a cozy dinner at Ben's Independent Food Store, where we ordered an entire roast chicken, which wasn't that bad.
Work has also required me to come in early these few days, and it is not helping with my sleep problems.
Good night world!

Complacent Squatter
This week has been relatively lax at work. Although it is a good to facilitate rest for me, I
m scared that I have become complacent and lazy. Ugh.
And squats are the bane of my existence. Going back to leg days after surgery is hell.

Phoneless, Sleepful, and Basically a Lesson on Refrigeration
Yesterday and today, I left my phone at home when I went to work. Both happened so similarly. Yesterday, I basically forgot my office keys at home, because I'm just used to leaving the keys in my work pants, but it is the start of the week, and I probably haven't gotten used to the working routine. So upon reaching the office (which fortunately is only 5-7 minutes away), I turned around to get my keys. Then when I got my keys, I somehow left my phone on the table. Today, I wore shorts to work, but I was supposed to bring my work pants along in my bag for emergencies, so I also forgot my keys and pants at home. When I went back to take my key and pants, I left my phone there.
I'm seriously getting too old.
I'm getting enough quality sleep (with me being disciplined with sleeping early enough), and my body really cranks so much more better. I even managed to go tho the gym today, albeit in the evening.
Okay, now for the main article of today:
Refrigerating Products in Malaysia
I think most of us has grown to use the fridge to keep everything to the point that we think that anything in the fridge can last forever (for the freezer it probably is true, but still). There are some products that really shouldn't go into the fridge, so save some space inside for things that actually matter, and save some trouble too:
1. Peanut butter and other spreads with a high fat content (but not cheese and dairy products). It spreads better at room temperature, and the high fat content and the preservatives of most commercialised spreads keep it safe outside the fridge.
2. Preserves, but not jams and marmalades. Preserves have been cooked down with enough sugar to render them quite hardy. Jams and marmalades are more pure and have a higher moisture content that would be better in the fridge after opening.
3. Hot Sauces and mustard. Most sauces (chilli and tabasco especially) are usually pasteurised and the acidity keeps them from spoiling. For ketchup, read the label for instructions, not all are made equal.
4. Potatoes and tomatoes. Potatoes change form in the fridge, and the starch changes to sugar, and not in a nice way. Tomatoes become mushy and the taste changes, and is better off left outside to ripen more (tomatoes in Malaysia tend to be bought under-ripened).
5. Bananas. In the fridge they turn mushy inside, and the skin turns an unsightly black.
6. Citrus fruits. Left outside, they ripen just like tomatoes, and they also dry up in the fridge and the skin becomes hard due to the dehydration effect.
There's a lot more, but you probably can Google for the information.
As for freezing, do not freeze huge chunks of meat just like that (it makes defrosting slow and troublesome). When buying meat, remove as much moisture from the meat with a clean dry cloth, then cut into the portions that you will be cooking them in. Wrap the individual portions with cling wrap and you are done. If the portion is huge (like a huge batch of chicken pieces), lay cling wrap on a flat surface and spread the meat in a way that it forms a single layer. After that cling wrap the top, using your fingers to press into small cavities and valleys in between each piece. You can then roll the cling wrapped layer into a roll and freeze.
Done.
I seriously need to stop eating canned food, especially canned tuna. It's just so expensive and technically troublesome to purchase, cook and eat fresh fish.

The Daily Weetabix
A few updates.
My elder sister was mugged today at a bus stop near her place in Sydney. There were people around, and fortunately the mugger only targeted her phone (which wasn't exactly super high-tech or anything). At least she is safe and sound.
The one month of not working has put me back quite a lot financially, so I'm gonna be stingy and all if I can help it.
Body is still relatively weak. Throat still dries up easily, especially in my office where the air-conditioning is brutally frigid and the air stagnant and stuffy. Easing into my gym routine is painful, because I don't push that hard, but it still felt like I did so on the following day. Diet control is also still not up yet, although somehow I have developed my sister's liking for Weetabix type biscuits, especially for breakfast. I cheat though, by applying a moderate amount of chocolate spread and peanut butter in between two biscuits.
Phone has cracked (so much for Gorilla Glass) some time back (but thankfully it doesn't crack like Apple screens). Not bothered to change the screen yet since it still functions perfectly fine. The only thing I use my phone for is normal calls and messages, Whatsapp, and other social apps anyway.
The one thing that has never changed is I still sweat like a sponge oozes water. It's seriously not funny.
As for my tonsils, it's about 99% healed. There's still a tiny part at the back of the throat which isn't fully healed, but it should be okay in due time.
Finito.
Might be meeting elder sis in Singapore if her company sends here there in October. Also planning to go with my godbrother and several other people to Penang in December.

Tender
Work has been exhausting, and I don't think I have gotten my body back to its original state of health. That plus a tender process that was rushed for today has taken a toll on me. It's an interesting process altogether, and I hope the company does win it. Fingers crossed.
Other than that, I think I have been horny these days. Not a good thing altogether.
I feel poor too, I think I have been overspending in the past month. I'm gonna try to activate my stingy-bucker mode of staying at home and be antisocial, haha.

Of Roads to Recovery, Return to Work, and Various Random Rants
It is now 2 weeks since my tonsils came out and I'm about 90% healed, with only the back portion still healing at a snail pace. My strength is slowly recovering, and I have started to slowly ease back to my gym routine, albeit at an even slower pace to not affect my healing. However, 1 month of not working has put me in this state of zombification that I can't seem to shrug off, but hopefully everything will slowly return to normal.
My masters course has been delayed, so I'm finding other plans now for the near and distant future.
Although many of my friends have stopped playing, I have taken the window of opportunity made by the latest patch to tear through Hell difficulty to arrive safely in Inferno. Now, it's just about slow grinding and gaining Paragon levels. I'm just too lazy to start other games I need to play (Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, The Witcher 2: Assasins of Kings, Dark Souls, etc.) because I probably need a new computer to play those smoothly.
The two things I must (by choice and interest) read extensively about now is the Summerhill School and the Mondragon Corporation. Maybe I'll blog about those two later on.
I shopped like crazy two days ago (probably not as hardcore as shopaholics, but it still is a lot to me). The damages done during this Raya sale period are 3 pants (of which I desperately need in my wardrobe), 1 long sleeve shirt, 4 tees, 2 tank tops, 8 undies. I happen to be a relatively picky shopper, but it is scary when there are so many things that you like that you are willing to pay for at one go.
I seriously need to start disciplining myself to sleep early again, and when I say early, I mean old man 10pm early. I think the top three things that affect my body the most are:
1. Rest. Which means I need high quality and consistent sleep at the time of the day where my hormones are most suited for recovery and rest (which based on past experience is a sleeping time somewhere around 10pm to 11pm). And if I push in the gym, I need to somehow fit in a nap period somewhere in the afternoon. Hmmm.
2. Temperature and environments. I don't do well in a air conditioned areas, stuffy and enclosed areas, and my body doesn't deal well with sudden temperature changes (i.e.: from a cold air conditioned car to a sunny Malaysian afternoon without shade at temperatures reaching more than 37 degrees Celsius). Unfortunately, my job requires me to be in all those scenarios.
3. Lack of fluids. I dehydrate easily, and even my diet can affect my hydration-bility. Drinking lots of water at once doesn't solve the problem.
Okay, maybe that's enough for today, don't wanna run out of bloggable subject matter tomorrow, assuming I do end up blogging. I'm so terrible.
Me signing out. And thanks for the prayers, whoever you all are!

Tonsils RIP
I finally performed my tonsillectomy on 13th August 2012. I believe this is a turning point in my life, after which I should have a healthier perspective towards my own body, and with the removal of my septic tonsils, hopefully my life will come back together.
The tonsils are still being studied to see any issues, so I'll update as I get more information.
Right after the surgery, it was an awful pain. It's less pain today (that's why I was discharged), but it will be some time before a full recovery takes place. Now, my priorities is just more rest and water (and food too, although I feel super guilty for downing so many ice-creams).
I lost about 7kg weight, most of which I believe is muscle... Haih...
But my outlook seems better already. Thanks to everyone who prayed for me.
Love ya'll.

Countdown to Surgery
I'm still spending every day recuperating (yes it seems to be a long process) and hopefully make proper recovery by the coming Monday of which my surgery is scheduled if all goes well. I am worried that complications would further delay the actual surgery, or that operating would bring even more complications, but I'm trying to stay positive all these while.
Will try to squeeze in baking therapy tomorrow if it permits.
I'm tired, please lend me strength.

Unresolved Deep Throated Issues
Obviously, I have been away for a while, and this time it is a completely valid reason (not that I am responsible to actually put out reading materials since I don't have that many readers, but I digress). The Sunday two weeks ago (29th July 2012), I came down with a horrible fever that persisted to the point that I was admitted to the hospital the following Tuesday at close to Midnight (31st July 2012), and I have been there up till yesterday.
You already know I hate being sick, I mean, nobody does. But I absolutely loath it when it has to do with my tonsils, because it has been the bane of my healthy existence since forever.
The stay in the hospital was a mix of painful and drug numbing experiences. Whenever a dose of drugs (usually antibiotics) surges up my bloodstream, I can rest assured the feeling of safety for a few hours. Then the pain sets in again and I have to suffer till the next dose. The first 2 days I switched antibiotics around because they didn't seem to be working and my body seemed to be resistant against the type. My tonsils also became worse, but they finally found a strain that worked on me on the third day.
The tonsils and throat is one of the worse places to get infected, it completely impairs you to consume what is required for healing, food and water. Being on drip doesn't help much too, since the drip doesn't moisturise the outside of the tonsils and prevent external agitation, and this is especially problematic when you sleep. I'm still wondering how doctors and researchers never get around to that issue...
Nearing the end of my stay, my tonsils subdued enough to swallow, but a new problem arose. My stomach and esophageal walls weakened to the point of gastric and acid reflux. Even at home now, I'm am still battling with this as I slowly garner strength.
I wish to thank several people: my parents for their unending support (especially my angel mother); the friends who visited me and brought me comics, get-well-soon cards, food, honey; and the rest who kept me in prayer and in thought.
If all goes well, my tonsillectomy is due on Monday. Then maybe, just maybe (although at this point I'm gearing more towards definitely, but perhaps I shouldn't jinx myself), this issue will come to a full closure.
I love you all.

From Chocolate Gingerbread Cake to Clementine Cake
Made a batch of my spirit guide Miss Lawson's Chocolate Gingerbread Cake last weekend and delivered an incredibly moist, sticky and rich cake with no reservations for my friends. Since it got so much approval, I decided to chance on making another cake tomorrow, her flourless Clementine Cake, of which I'll cheat and use oranges.
Ugh, I need to get around reporting my daily life. Not that it has degenerate into a forced task, but these days has been so exhausting (for not such a productive or even known reason) that I couldn't resist the urge to play truant. I'll punish myself soon; I have plenty of kitsch when it comes to fetishes.
Have a great weekend!

10 Facts About Patrick Star!
Patrick star is the deuteragonist of the Spongebob Squarepants show (and also my favourite character). Here are 10 cool facts about him!
1. He is 6 inches tall.
2. His criminal record is stealing a balloon on Free Balloon Day.
3. His voice actor is Bill Fagerbakke.
4. His attention span is 0.02 seconds.
5. Patrick has a driving license and is an excellent driver, unlike Spongebob who still hasn't passed.
6. Patrick has a belly button that protrudes inward (it doesn't has an outward bulge).
7. He actually appears on less episodes compared to Squidward, but is more famous than him.
8. His favourite colour is aquamarine.
9. His is the cousin of Gary the snail.
10. The original creator of the Spongebob Squarepants series initially wanted to make Patrick and Spongebob a gay couple, but because Nickelodeon ended up taking the show on instead of Comedy Central, they changed them to being ambiguous friends.
Tada! I wasted some time of your day. Let's have a great week ahead!

The Middle Ground
To those who do not know it yet, I am a true versatile.
And that doesn't mean only sexually, I believe in the dualism of dominance and passivity, the dynamics of a continuous exchange of thoughts and acts of love, the idea that this free flow can be the thing that holds a relationship together strongly. To sit on the fence and not be tired of it.
I'm a rare breed I guess, but I never give up hope.

The Disappointing Myth of the Gay Agenda and A Recap of Savino's Case For Marriage Equality
When you type in 'gay' in TED Talks, the first link you see is this:
LZ Granderson: The Myth of The Gay Agenda
The first half dragged me in, but the second half was disappointing. I was totally expecting him to give a little deeper insight of this semantically subjective term, but I guess the truth might be as simple as what he said, that we are all just fighting for our rights.
A more compelling result from the search is not even a TED Talk, but a case made by a senator in the New York Senate:
Diane J. Savino: The Case For Same-Sex Marriage
Have a great weekend guys! Yes, I still have much to update. I'm so lazy!

Behaving Like Teenagers
This write-up pretty much sums my point of view (not exhaustively, but pretty well):
Society now accepts gay men as equals. So why on earth do so many continue to behave like teenagers?
As for updates, I have been plagued by my tonsils again. so the TEDxKL post has to wait a little as I'm on very strong antibiotics and flu medicine. Antibiotics alone cost about RM6.00 a pill...
I want to remove my tonsils, but for now recovery and observation is a routine practice.
Oh, and these days I am also swarmed with crazy emotional swings of loneliness and (unfortunately) jealousy. It isn't helping my self-esteem, but this is a path that I have to brave as a man.

The People Who You Should Appreciate With All Your Heart
Nope, they are not your parents. Not even your best friend and close friends.
They are the people who you don't see as a romantic interest, but likes you more than a normal friend and loves you enough to let you find your love, hiding their actual feelings to become your eternal close friends.
I salute you with all my heart and I am ashamed for not being able to return those feelings.
I actually went to TEDxKL today, but I'll reserve it for a longer post tomorrow. Have a great weekend people (whoever you are)!

Home Alone
I have been home alone since last Thursday till this Friday. Nothing much has changed, but I have chosen the lazy method of doing stuff at times to prevent from dirtying the house and all.
Perceived loneliness is amplified by actual loneliness.
Wondering when I will be getting my blog muse back...

Another Dream of a Friend
I've given up on daily posts for now, but I'll start giving a damn soon.
Yesterday had this strange dream of a friend.
He was living in some high security garden hill with guards, and the only way to meet him was to brave through the brush ala Cate Archer to a private Gazebo where we had a great time in conversation from dusk till dawn. When the sun rose, he left through the front door, while I had to go back through the maximum security jungle until I was out of the compound.
Weird dream, but hope he is doing well.

Gotta Get Back In Gear, Maybe With More Lubrication
Took a one week blog hiatus. Nothing much happened in the past week, other than my throat still playing games with me.
I guess I gotta shift into high gear. My temperaments depend much on my overall well-being, and it has never reached optimal for far too long.
That said and done, gonna go to MPO tonight with a few friends, showcasing the legendary Rach 3 and Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherezade. Still haven't planned anything for tomorrow, but I probably should rest more.

Phillip Glass, Tirol Concerto, Movement I.
Oh, and I'm coming close to my 100th late by one day post. Not like it's something to be proud of, haha.

This is for Yesterday XCV - Full Blown Ulcer
It's wedged right between the back of the tongue and the bottom of the tongue near the molars. It's a horrible place and I'm having difficulty swallowing. Life sucks.
This Is For Two Days Ago VII - Afraid to Sleep Again
This sucks.
The sucky feeling of dreading sleep. Because you know you will suffer through it. Your throat will get parched. Your body will not get enough rest. Each day is just another battle with some inner force that refuses me rest.
Will I win tonight's battle?
I hope so.

Do I Know You?
I removed 50ish people from my Facebook friend list yesterday due to one or more of these reasons:
1. I don't know you anymore.
2. I don't spend time talking with you for a long time, or my efforts has gone to vain far too many times (although I cannot take all the credit for this (which means it should be mutual)).
3. I don't believe in your principles/relationship methodology/ethics.
4. I want to spend more quality time with the people I know, and that requires less distractors.
5. I don't want to waste your time with appearing on your feeds when you don't really care.
I should do it once in a while, it really helps me to know what I really want and who I want to be with, and whether I've been spending sufficient time with the people I want to be with, and whether I am fair to myself when communication is only going one way.
I highly recommend anyone to do it.

Gays Being Gays
Okay, I don't think I am a party popper, but I hate how the gay community is cornering themselves into an alcove where diversity is less encouraged and we actually 'have' to fit into a role that is 'expected' of us. What exactly does that even mean? Many of us would have already known by now; that gay people can be one of the most shallow, materialistic, judgmental and biased people you can ever know. And if we want people to see us for who we are, respect us and accept us for our entire self, we cannot keep going down this broken path.
1. Gays do not have to talk about gay stuff. What is that anyway? Hot guys? I'm sorry, but that belongs to girls too. Fashion? Ditto. Art? There are plenty of heteronormative creatives around. Yes, I know we are already so stifled to talking about these topics with ordinary people (sometimes because we refuse to be out to them, and that is acceptable, but sometimes also because we do not want to cause them any discomfort, and that is acceptable too), but we can talk about so many other stuff. Limiting ourselves will bring ourselves to shallow waters, instead of exploring the deep blue sea.
2. Gays need to stop labeling. Yes it helps a little (stereotyping is the brain's response to simplify the environment around them so that less mental processes are used), but we should be the most accepting individuals, most responsive and open to diversity and differences, more engaging in various fields and subject matter, and in all, more human. There is no set rule. And stop expecting the same of your partners, embrace their differences and their uniqueness.
At this point I realised that my other points aren't valid (point 1 makes it barely, as it skims on the issue of depth mostly). Everyone has the right to decide what kind of a life they want to live (although psychologists and anthropologists will argue that their decisions have actually already been set the moment they gain preconceptions of what it really means). You can choose to be gay however you want to be, even if it falls on a very steep-centred normal 'tower' curve.
Sigh.
Please people. Show some depth. And to those who are, stop being asses (the idiot type, not the bottoms).
Peace out.

This is for Yesterday XCIII - The Danger Of Being Indispensable
Took yesterday off, because I wasn't feeling well. But my bosses have been calling me non stop from morning till evening to get me to settle stuff at home. Do they even know the meaning of needing rest? That said and done, I feel a little proud that I'm such an important part of their business already, but I don't like being indispensable. I believe that you should always be more valuable than the position you are in (not underpaid, mind you, just more valuable), not being the perfect fit, because if you are a perfect fit, they'll keep you there forever.
Hope health comes back to me soon, and the weather becomes more forgiving. Already skipping two days of gym.
I gained another 3-4 kg! The weighing scale at home is a little wonky, but I should have gained at least 2 kg in one month! :)

Emergency Measures
I was spending almost the entire day at the client side and the weather has been crazy. When I got home, I was already half sick (headaches, sore throats, aching all over not just from gym). I popped into bed immediately and before I know it, I'm waking at 11.30pm feeling totally wide awake.
And I thought I could surprise my Bestie today for her birthday.
Happy birthday you! Your trifle is doing well!

Making Custard is Like Building Muscles
You start with so much, but after working on it for freaking long, you get smooth, creamy, yumminess that just gets firmer with time.
So good.
And I'm so tired now. What a tiring Monday.

10003
I still have no clue who is coming to read my blog, seriously. I have been bad to my readers with my horribly inconsistent blog posts and topics, and my severe lack of pictures or art, most of which I do steal from the web with much self restraint. However, I'll take any opportunity to celebrate. Weeeee!
Ate so much fast food today, it's not even funny. This weekend is also so tiring. No rest for the wicked indeed.

The Idealist DiIlemma
Pick one:
1. You make the least money, but the world becomes more sustainable and adaptive to new changes and problems are never allowed to get out of hand or reoccur.
2. You make an average amount, but the world becomes functional at the current stage and (seemingly) foreseeable future.
3. You make the most money, all solutions are one off and require more input and resources to function if they are needed again.
This is a hard decision for those who live on the dangerous boundaries of the ideal utopia (which, when conceptualised by our flawed selves are only a fraction of the actual absolute utopia) and the literal reality.
However, how many people actually realise that there is only so much shit that the world can take before we actually have to clean after ourselves.
Sigh, it sucks to see the Matrix at times.
Have a great weekend!

Verdon
You know, I can totalyl get used to blogging first thing in the morning. Maybe, it will be a good start to end those 'This is for Yesterday' and 'This is For Two Days Ago' posts.
How do you pronounce L'occitane en Provence? I actually didn't really have a clue until I saw this:
So, yeah. It's pronounced Lox-ee-tan (Lox as in lox and bagels, ee as in the letter 'E', and tan as in a tonne of bricks) on (as in on top) Praw-vonce (Praw as in sounding like claw, vonce as in sounding like... Beyonce minus the Be- and the -ce).
Yeah.
All because my mum got me a gift from L'occitane some time ago - eau de toilette (which you can go ahead and try to pronounce) Verdon, which is fantastic because it is subtle and my nose approves much of it (my mum knows my taste so much, thanks mum!).
And then she went and buy me a second bottle because she had points or something.
So I have two. Haha. Not that I'm complaining, but yeah.

Fullness Fear
I have been trying to stuff more food into my body, but that feeling of never being hungry and always needing to eat food even when you still feel the food in your stomach isn't a comfortable feeling at all. You can blame me for not taking shakes, but this is a sacrifice I have chosen to pay.
Somehow, reconnected with a long lost friend who happened to be completing her personal-training training, so I'm her guinea pig for a slightly adjusted routine and focus on form. Luckily, she encourages my taking the au naturale method, since her boyfriend who is still bulking for 13 years have been utilising such method (and he is bigger than what I want to achieve, so it should be possible). I still need a diet mentor, I spend a lot of time cooking and preparing meals in the morning, sigh.

At The Toll Plaza
... I saw a lorry try to go through the Touch and Go lane when it was almost my turn to pay at the queue in another lane. As I wound down my window, I heard a loud crash, and I saw that the lorry has crashed into the Touch and Go sign.
Quite a hilarious sight actually. Some newbie driver trying to create a scene by pretending not to know height clearances, or just sheer stupidity and drama. Not that I don't appreciate the humour.
Today has been a slow but sure start of the week. Hope it continues this way!

This is for Yesterday XCI - Deliberation
You know what they say about hard decisions?
One goes along the line of 'flip a coin and before it lands you will have known what you actually wanted'.
There's also the other 'what would you do if you would die tomorrow'.
It helps loads.
Oh, and not comparing helps even more.
No regrets.

Out Of The Frying Pan And Into The Fire
Do I stay in one place and get fried, or jump off and get burnt. Both choices have too many cons, and so few pros. Maybe I'll find a third option somewhere? Who knows. As for now, I'm left to decide on either the red or blue pill.
Take the red?

Of Bottom's Preferences, Yammering Sphincters, and Diving Into Work
Had a discussion with a friend, and he claims that most bottoms prefer guys who are more successful than they are. I hate using stereotypes, but I will be observing amongst my bottom friends whether this is true. Anyone care to help me ascertain this?
Oh, and I hate it when I start talking non stop then realise upon finishing that I talk too much (or so I believe). Maybe it's just a perception thing, but meh.
Had the formal interview today. Basically, I think they want me quite much that I have the job unless I don't want it. Don't know whether I should dive in. We'll see.
The next 2 days will be late-sleep-late-gym days to accommodate some social life. Darn.

Of Delayed Gratifications, Possible Work Opportunities and Looking Up at the Stars
I'll be waiting for the second batch of collector's edition. I don't know why I even hesitated before, but yeah. This means by the time I start playing, I'll be as n00b as can be, but I guess the dynamics will be interesting. Same goes for buying my future lappie from the States, I'm waiting for the optimal time when the USD forex is lower. Same goes for plenty of other materialistic goods I'm eyeing this year. Must resist, I really don't have the finances yet.
My close friend hooked me up with a possible job opportunity at the MNC he is working at (I shall keep confidences as of now). It's a HR contract position, but it is the kind of experience I need to start collecting in preparation for my masters programme, even throughout my studies. It's stressful, but its a dynamic environment with a higher pay (for sure). We'll see what happens.
And because I'm not stuck at home in front of the computer screen saving Sanctuary, I stare up at the sky and see wonderful twinkling stars. Even with street lamps distorting the panoramic scenery, it is really a good experience to just look up and see fairy dust sprinkled over a dark blue canvas. How many of you actually do this?
Mid week is here. Let's do it.

Out With The Old, In WIth The New
I pride myself in my ability to be productive, and now I'm in the process of slowly changing file systems in my workplace, for better navigation and organisation. Sure, it'll take a while to be fully implemented, but I have great confidence that it will make a significant improvement in the workplace (and to reduce my own stress with their native systems).
Tomorrow is coming, and I don't have my copy of the third demon yet. Cis.
Have fun kids!

The Science Of Pyramids
To those who have friends in MLM, close friends especially, I ask that you be patient. It's often that we severe ties too early, but sometimes the problem isn't your friend, but the problem itself. They do not have a clue about the entire system, and I blame our education system for this for not teaching is higher level critical thinking skills that is actually required to analyse these sort of situations.
First, be educated. Read Dean Van Druff's article on MLM here: What's Wrong With Multi-Level Marketing? or Robert L. FitzPatrick's article here: Half of Amway's Products Are Retailed. Really! Plus Other Wacky Numbers. There's plenty of other stuff around, and somehow, the MLMs don't seem to even bother countering these critical issues that are raised. That in itself is already a dodgy problem.
Second, do not lose faith in your friend. They are sometimes (not always) truly sincere.
Thirdly, believe in the higher ethics (unless you don't care, which means you shouldn't be reading this to start with).
Love.

Invisible Pyramids
Okay. Time for a long post, which is part rant-ish, but primarily thought evoking, or so I hope.
Three days ago my friend invited me to a business meeting. And so I obliged, keeping an open mind and still having my own set of reservations. I did ask my friend what the agenda will be about, and he just dismissed my doubts by saying it is eye opening and will introduce me to a wide range of professional individuals for networking. That and I just wanted to see the group of people my dear friend has been hanging out with since he started helping run his family business.
I arrived, and the atmosphere felt uncertain. I watched a boring and very outdated video introduction, and then listened to an old man speak horribly for the next 30 minutes or so about business concepts, mostly focused on getting people interested in passive incomes. Then it hit, it was Amway.
I do have my own preconceptions about multi-level marketing businesses, and no matter how you try to hide it up, it is (at least to me and some other people) obviously a pyramidal system. Heck, it is even defined as such on the first line in its Wikipedia page. It wasn't even my first encounter with such people as I was approached before in the mall at a bookshop while I was perusing psychology books. I don't deny that the system doesn't work, I just have a large issue with its transparency, its concept, and its entire branding leverage.
I noticed immediately that when they ask the group to bring more friends to future meetings, they constantly warn not to reveal the brand, as others have misconceptions about such a wonderful system. I believe that this is bollocks, as you do not trust your own brand identity to share the idea and/or not have enough confidence to defend yourself with the truth and facts about the brand you have already sunk your commitment into. Secondly, if that horrible presentation was supposed to get rid of my preconceptions, I'm sorry but I believe there are nervous kindergarten students who can be more convincing that you, despite your passive income of probably more than 5K.
Next, they keep insisting that coming to a RM210 regional workshop will answer all my questions. Why can't you just answer my questions now? Are people high up on the upline having that much privy to business information and structural secrets? Why is there even a seniority complex in the system, creating an obvious tiered relationship between each other. The atmosphere does not lie, everyone there wants to be higher up then the rest as fast as possible.
Like I said initially, I don't think MLMs are particularly bad. They are an interesting application of gamification in business and albeit being hierarchical, it has a strange resemblance to a Utopian system (resemblance on the surface though, nothing beats an ideal Utopia). There is plenty of potential for this system to be used in education and all, but I guess a hierarchy will always involve politics, and flatness seems to be the new future of the world.
Most importantly, I am very disappointed that my friend does not trust me as a close enough friend to tell me the truth upfront. I am more worried for him than am I angry. I really should talk with him soon enough.
Have a stupendous weekend peeps.

Nothing Much But Yeah
Okay, I have to delay yesterday's story one day more.
Today I feel guilty.
That's all for today's updates.
Darn, I need more friends. The proper kind. So lonely!
Sleep plan fail again today because everyone refuse to leave me alone and I refuse to say no to everyone. So now, I'll respond with a bitter "Go die la you!" if I get anyone ruining my cycle. Yes. I mean no.

Today Is International Masturbation Day?
So, exactly how do we celebrate this day? Meh.
Something disappointing happened today, but I'll leave the write up to tomorrow, when I have more time to do some research and put my thoughts together.
Tomorrow, I will seriously start to be antisocial, sleeping early, waking early and having no life.

Interesting Questions @Strictly G.
Was wondering about what I should blog about and happened about my dear godbro's blog, so here goes:
1. What is the strangest thing you've ever eaten?
Shirako (fish sperm sacs)
2. If you could bring one character to life from your favourite book, who would it be?
Uncle from Uncle by J. P. Martin.
3. Would you rather go a week without bathing, but be able to change your clothes, or a week without a change of clothes, but be able to bathe?
Bath everyday without changing clothes. I'll just treat my clothes much better than normal.
4. If you had to be trapped in a TV show for a month, which show would you choose?
The Big Bang Theory. So I can get to be the gay guy who acts straight while Raj is the straight guy is so gay. This is actually a blog topic I want to write about soon.
5. You can select one person from history and ask them a question to which they must give a truthful reply. Whom would you select, and what question would you ask?
I'll ask The Unknown Rebel who stood in front of tanks in Tiananmen Square, "what was going through your mind?"
6. Would you be willing to commit perjury in court for a close friend? What if your lie would save his life?
I would lie if the friend wants me to unless it is an extremely serious crime.
7. If you could have personally witnessed one event in history, what would you want to have seen?
The beginning of time.
8. Would you enjoy spending a month of solitude in a beautiful natural setting? Food and shelter would be provided but you would not see another person.
I don't have the heart to do that. I'm lonely enough as it is with people around.
9. Would you have one of your fingers surgically removed if it guaranteed immunity from all major diseases?
A pianist needs every finger. So no. Die then die lor.
10. Would you cut short your life span for 5 years if you could stay forever young and attractive?
What's wrong with looking old? I plan to age gracefully.

No Shakes Attached
![]() |
| 1st May 2012. |
In the course of three months, I've gained 2.6 kgs, of which 1.6 is muscle and 0.9 is fat. Body fat percentage went up by 0.4% to 20.2. Metabolic age remained the same at 22. All this without shakes or supplements, and mind you, a lot of people think I'm an easy gainer when I really am not. And all this without having the most optimal routine, thanks to horrible sleeping patterns and occasional sore throats.
And it's not funny, you actually rarely feel hungry and always feel something in your stomach. It's not a very comfortable feeling.
I should be a little worried that I'm gaining 1/3 of the weight in fat though, so let's see how disciplined I will be for the next 3 months. The plan is to gain 2.4 kg of muscle mass with less than.9 kg fat.
I need a diet partner. I guess that's more important than a gym buddy at this point of time. Any takers?
This is for Yesterday LXXXII - Breeding Antisocialism
I feel tempted to be more antisocial, perhaps go back to my old geek-ier lifestyle. Expectations are easier to manage. And I'll get enough sleep and exercise at the loss of social life. Not to say I have much.
Have a great week ahead, and my late pay check is finally coming in! I feel a tad bit less poor now.

Devotion Ends When You Reason
I'm a Christian. Not a staunch one, but not a whatever kind. I used to be a regular church goer, but somehow, things just didn't work out, and I'm left to float through the lifestream. Not giving up though.
Today is Wesak day, and I, as a tradition with my close friends, volunteer at the Buddhist Maha Vihara at Brickfields, KL. It's a small deed in a big universe, but no questions are ask and no judgments are made. Your devotion is indeed what you make it.
Some of my Christian friends/relatives don't use joss sticks because they say it means you are committing idolatry. I do it as a tradition, and I don't empower it other than the fact that it keeps family together.
Goodness is universal, and religion is your own relationship, however you choose to go about it. Be good, be loving.
Have a great weekend, and Happy Wesak.

Bersih 3.0
Okay, time to get down to writing about my Bersih 3.0 experience and thoughts I have gathered from what has been surfacing these past few days. This will not be exhaustive or even comprehensive, as you'll probably get more information from Facebook alone, but will be more personal. I also won't tell you how my day went, since it was relatively safe and can be summarised as follows: went Bersih, waited, marched, stood stuck, sat, saw the first few gas canisters released but too far away, dismiss, took 2 hours to get home cranky. Yeah, not exactly an example of heroism or calculated bravado.
One week before the rally, I still didn't know I was going, but as the days creep nearer, more news of problematic governance and conspiracies of both sides flood news feeds and online tabloids (again, you can find those news by yourself without too much problem). I became more and more concerned about our country's current predicament, and my body yearns to join my brethren in their quest for a better democracy. Having other friends who were planning to go on the journey helped much as they support you through spirit if not in presence. However, I believe many of us do not ask ourselves the question, or perhaps not give a satisfactory answer to themselves for 'Why were they rallying for Bersih 3.0?'.
I went to Bersih for symbolic reasons. It is true that appearing as merely one number out of 250,000 to 300,000 citizens will not simply make any changes, but this country needs more than just actual change now: it needs a firm sense of unity and sensibility of having ideal concepts of how our country should be run. We need to know that we are not alone, that we are intellectual organisms able to see both sides of the coin and request for what should be rightfully ours, the truth and nothing short of it.
I just want to make some points that you might already know, but I'll say them nevertheless:

I just want to make some points that you might already know, but I'll say them nevertheless:
- Bersih is not the rakyat (citizens, it does have a nice ring to it doesn't it?). Bersih simply represents the rights that the rakyat should possess.
- There are many pawns in this whole game. The opposition and other factions are using Bersih 3.0, and the government uses the police, the KL governance and other unknown forces. We are pawns in their game, but we should be self-aware and choose to affiliate ourselves with what Bersih is, neutral and non-partisan.
- The government is putting effort into reforms, but they leave much to be desired for, and their timing of red tape cannot be any fishier.
- Our media is not objective, and I feel sad for the journalists much, for I believe they truly want to report the truth when they are stifled.
- Many people actually still do not care, or believe that the current government is still the lesser of two evils. You can argue this point till the dogs come home, but there are lines that the current government shouldn't have crossed, and they did without any form of guilt.
- Our economy is screwed, and some say that unwinding it will involve a leak that might weaken our walls and release the waters of finance. Better a small and solidly grounded than weakly caught in an illusion.
- The race card is so last millennium. Or religion. Or sexuality.
There's still a long way to go with all this, and the war is definitely not over. A dear friend once told me that Malaysia will have to go through its own civil war before rising as a develop nation. Maybe, this is it. I can hardly wait, but I worry much for the sanctity of our democracy.
Meh. I felt that I said nothing in this wall of text. In all, love everyone more than you love yourself. Kudos.

Se-Tar-Bucks Is A Charm
Thanks Bestie for my awesome Starbucks charm and top-up. XOXO
And that surmises my short update because I need to sleep to recover from my sore throat. Nites! Have fun reading my recent MPO discourse. Tomorrow, I'll get to the long awaited Bersih 3.0 report.

This is for Yesterday LXXX - Nareh Arghamanyan Blows My Mind
Actually this post is dedicated to my awesome MPO experience the previous Saturday, but yeah.
I was actually super exhausted after the Bersih participation since I took 2 hours to get home. I was wondering whether to still go for the MPO performance, since a friend who was going opted out to get more rest, and going alone is always a bummer. Somehow, my spirit hungered for music more than my body longed for sleep.
I arrived early in the hall, this time sitting close to the stage on the left side of the hall (with what I now know to have the greatest views for a piano concerto performance). Before the orchestra even tuned their instruments, an announcement was made that the guest conductor couldn't make it, so Kevin Field, who was initially intended to lead the first half of the night, took over. The first piece was Adagio for Orchestra by Barber, a deep and resounding lament that is epitome of American mourning music. It was a great start that somehow tied in together with what I experienced at Bersih ( I promise I will get to around and write about tomorrow), a tribute of sorts to Malaysia.
Then after the Steinway and Sons was pushed to the middle, the pianist walked in with comfortable poise followed by the much honoured conductor. Then the magic happened. Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 is a piece that I know well, and I have quite a high expectation for any performance that I should listen to, but when I heard her play the three chord phrases that signify the start, I knew I was in for a great time. She swept the audience of their feet, jerking into a free fall drop down a well controlled roller coaster. At times, she is even since bouncing on her chair to apply the necessary urgency and tension required for this dramatic and passionate concerto. As she ends her first movement, the crowd bursts into an early applause for too many good reasons. The next two movements is history well told, and she left this strange feeling in our mouths that asked for more.
For the second half of the night, she was to play solo pieces to replace the guest conductor's Concerto for Orchestra by Bartok. Her selection was formidable. She started with Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite for solo piano, leading the crowd with familiar pieces. To her, this is just the tip of the iceberg, just a minor finger exercise, and a small moment to sample a small selection of her personality. Next, she conquered Rachmaninoff's Études-Tableaux, making me lose focus in technical segments that required us to have more listening skills than she needs dexterity and finesse. The cream of the crop was her last choice, Balakirev's "Islamey", an oriental fantasy crafted into a fast moving deterioration of the human spirit as it traverse an impromptu ethereal world. It was a truly magnificent rendition.
She received 6 encores (in addition to her first applause), and performed two encore performances. The first was an unknown piece that I should (hopefully) remember when I hear it again. The second one was sudden, as she sat down with as much force as she started Khatchaturian's Sabre Dance with immense intensity and speed. Her final encore gave her standing ovations from many, and this marks my first MPO visit that totally amazed be beyond measure.
Her name? Nareh Arghamanyan. Oh, and I just found out from Wikipedia that she is one year younger than me. Dayum.
